Grabby ‘n Stabby 2.25.10

HELLO LOVELIES! This week has been so busy (and weird) despite it being a slower week at work as I get ready to start another project on Monday.

GRABBY:

Seeing Alkaline Trio on Friday night! David and I will be the oldest ones there who know all the words to every song. And I DON’T CARE, it’s gonna be awesome. They are one of the few bands I still love to see live.

Getting a new couch! It’s vintage, not the CB2 one I have lusted after, but it looks so cute in our place. I will post pictures soon!

Why Lady Gaga is the champion of brand revitalization.

Last.fm. I hate to say this but I kinda like it better than Pandora. I haven’t quite figured out the usefulness of tagging and shouts, but as far as music goes, it’s awesome for finding more that you like.

Be a lady, not a tramp. This book shows us all how.

Brand Week is on FIRE. Vintage cereal boxes. Method’s awesome new packaging. Now you can really dress like a Gossip Girl. You cat is frisky because she’s high.

Kansas City has a new “fashion and creativity” magazine? WHAT? It’s true. their launch party was last night at Crosstown Station. I will be interested to see how this one does.

House Industries and Agent Provocateur. Typography turn-ons in gold.

Be a Blue Angel, or any other color for that matter, in retro-glam lingerie from Dietrich.

Cheating isn’t always bad. Using this Photoshop cheat-sheet is actually very, very good.

Why are girls in Copenhagen so cute?

STABBY:

Gary Lezak telling me that on Wednesday we met but didn’t beat the record low for the date. So that’s supposed to make it OK??? I can’t make myself go to the gym at 5:45 in the morning when it’s below zero. Sorry, I am not that tough. So that means my schedule has been all messed up and that makes me STABBY.

Vogue photoshopping out Tina Fey’s scar for the March cover. I mean, we all know it’s there, and it’s not that noticeable. She’s been on other covers where they didn’t retouch it. That sort of thing just annoys me.

Itchy fabrics.

People who tailgate on the highway.

Anyway…I will take some pictures of the new place this weekend after I get some art on the walls. What else…oh, I am getting my bangs cut today. I might go to that Wedding Hive event tonight…as much as I think the wedding industry is highway robbery. Oh, and I am going to hit up the new Garment District boutique grand opening with Joi this weekend. So, I will have a lot to talk about next week! Ciao darlings!

Worn Out | Las Vegas

Hello all! Last week I was in Las Vegas for work. When I wasn’t working I had the chance to get out and do a little shopping and sight seeing. This is a very accessory-centered “episode” of Worn Out. I got some fabulous things at Bettie Page, as well as the cherry shoes pictured below from bebe. I’ve got to say, shopping in Las Vegas was so much fun. I was treated so well by the employees everywhere I went. It was great, and I found so much great stuff! More, non-phone Worn Out photos coming very, very soon but for now, enjoy!

Post-Crazy Horse!!! I have feathers and tulle in my hair, which always gets comments!

fishnets+boots= cab ride from Luxor to MGM

70 degrees and sunny — a far cry from Missouri's temps!

Yay! Cherries!

Lanterns in the Palazzo

The bag at the Bettie Page store! More pictures featuring the clothes I got coming soon!

Shaking things up.

Paris Apartment Building

So I’m not moving to Paris, I am moving a mile from where I live now. However when one has lived somewhere for five and a half years with another person, uprooting that life and physically moving all of one’s belongings to a new space is no small task.

Not to mention, this isn’t just a move, it’s a lifestyle change. Anyone who has lived in a loft will understand what I mean. Our only door is the bathroom door, currently. Even the bedroom, which is made of partial walls, doesn’t have a door, but a curtain that I put up. I’ve done my best when we’ve had overnight guests, but you can imagine the awkwardness this could create.

So, this week is consumed by final preparations for moving. We are so excited, even though it means leaving good friends in our building, including Katy and Rob. That part of leaving is sad, but the right opportunity came along, and this move is going to be wonderful and worth it when I am sleeping in my new bedroom Saturday night.

I didn’t do a retrospective 2009 blog post, but I feel really good about making this change at the beginning of the year. 2009 was good for me for a lot of reasons, but I think more good things are going to come out of this for me and David. Least of which is having rooms, doors, and each having our own bedroom closet. Oh yeah, and David can walk to work. How cool is that?

So anyway, excuse me if posting is spotty this week. I do want to share a few things though.

Zac Posen for Target. Ignore the comment from the person who says his line for Aussie Target was so much better. People are snotty. I’m looking forward to seeing this stuff in person.

Fashion Week is quickly approaching. I can’t wait.

• Nice (and very handsome) gay couples giving me the thumbs up on my outfit for Party Arty on Saturday night. Getting photo booth photos with my date for the night, Katy. Seeing my favorite DJ has returned to Firefly.

• FINALLY doing my pinup shoot with Nikki and Candy of Vixen Pinup Photography! It was amazing, and damn, can Nikki lace a tight corset!

The Ayn Rand letter.

Mmm…Helvetica. NOM NOM NOM.

In mere days I will be typing to you from my new, fabulous home office. Until then, stay classy.

Grabby ‘n Stabby | 01.14.10

Happy belated new year — I hope 2010 is treating you all well thus far! Things have been pretty crazy professionally and personally since the new year began, but it’s all been great stuff! Today I am wearing heels to work rather than snow boots for the first time since before Christmas, and I am a happy girl.

In 2010 I plan to post more about design, advertising and fashion, as well as all my travels for work. If you like what you see, I hope you will leave me a comment! And now, for the first Grabby ‘n Stabby of 2010!

Clever, tricky ideas often sound fine when described in a conference room.
But some simple, basic, plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face idea will sell more goods.

I know yesterday was the Grabby ‘n Stabby, but I’ve got some things I want to share so I felt like I needed to do a “Links are Awesome” again.

Happy Thursday all!

Are you finished with your holiday shopping? If you celebrate Hanukkah I would guess so, but Christmas shoppers still have plenty of time to order online and still get their presents in time for the holiday. If you’re like me you already knew that because your email is flooded with discount offers.
