48 Hour magazine

A magazine created over the weekend titled 48 Hours has shipped. The magazine includes well known writers and unknowns, and was produced in the Mother Jones magazine office in San Francisco.

Since I work in an industry where the over night turn is a way of life I think this is cool.

Hello Friday, we meet again!

So, I’ve been busy, ok? I’ve been to New York, where I avoided being caught up in the Time’s Square bomb scare, and I’ve been working on some other recreational projects — blogs, pinup stuff, crafty things to name a few.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t have some grabs ‘n stabs for you!

The fact that I can’t figure out how to dress for this time of year, and no stores seem to sell anything resembling a light jacket. Thank god for H&M.

Planning on hitting the First Friday art walk tonight with David and some partners in crime. Perhaps I will remember to take some damn pictures! Other than that, I’ve got a bunch of things I want to accomplish this weekend, so I am trying to stay motivated — but being so busy at work with travel, I want to lay around when I am home. But I won’t do that this weekend. I WON’T!

A day in Lawrence with Atomic Photography!

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to pose for some photos with Rachael Major of Atomic Photography, out of Lawrence, Kansas. As we made these plans at 11:30 p.m. Friday night, there wasn’t a lot of time to plan outfits and locations.

We decided to wander around downtown Lawrence and see what we could come up with. Luckily for us, aside from some wind, the weather was perfect, and I talked my friend, writer, Katy Ryan into coming along as my assistant — and she took some “behind the scenes” photos!

Outside shoots can be hard. You’ve got the elements, and in the case of downtown Lawrence, nerds hiding in the bushes at the park playing a role playing game. Yeah, I know. Katy helped me change in and out of my impossibly high cherry print heels as we walked from location to location, for which I was very grateful.

Rachael was so much fun to work with — I can’t wait to do it again soon! Special thanks to Katy for helping me out! Oh, BTW, Louise LeMans is my pinup moniker, and I’ve got a new blog in the works to chronicle some of the experience of being involved in this stuff! I’m super excited, so look for an announcement about that soon!

Apparently Britney Spears has demanded that her unaltered photos be used for a new Candies print ad campaign.

I am not sure I believe this, or if it’s just a publicity stunt. Either way I do really enjoy seeing how much is done when photos are edited for publication.

I think it’s funny that the one comment on the Mirror story is someone looking for hi-rez versions of the photos. Bruises or not, Britney’s still got it.

Have you seen the Old Spice commercial directed by Tim and Eric of Awesome Show fame? Do it.

An interesting perspective on how improving as a designer makes it difficult to look at past work objectively. I wouldn’t say that in a month my skills have evolved so much, but having some distance from a project usually means I don’t like something as much as I did at the time. Unfortunately by that point I’ve often forgotten the parameters and restraints imposed either by the client or the format.

People scheduling things on Sunday night. Maybe it’s just me, but I work a 40 hour week, and usually have the weekend planned too. I am a zombie by Sunday night, and menial tasks like laundry are about all I can handle.

Spirit Airline is starting to charge to use the overhead bins on their flights. We get it, airlines are still bleeding money. But seriously, why would anyone continue to fly this supposed “discount carrier”?

Getting yelled at by people over a GAME. Which just confirms my hatred of games.

David being sick this week. He’s been so congested, and he hates taking medicine and I feel bad for him!

Ok, I think that’s it for the grabs ‘n stabs this week. Honestly I am just glad the sun is out, and I’ve got work to do!

Because of my beau, I love The Misfits. Even the new Misfits, though, I know that makes me EXTREMELY uncool to some people.

I was delighted when I saw this poster on the FPO blog. Hell yes. the Misfits deserve a poster that isn’t some scrawled and photocopied mess. The letterpress jumble to create their skull logo is pretty awesome, and I hate to think how long it took to get it just right!

Now, inspired by this awesomeness, I’m going to blast Die, Die My Darling while I finish up a project.
